Question: How can I turn off the auto feature in Word that puts in number/letters for me when creating an outline? I don’t have it selected – I want it to stop trying to think for me.

Answer:

1.) Select from the toolbar, Format > Auto Format. . .

2.) Click the “Options” button

3.) Click the “AutoFormat As You Type” Tab

4.) Uncheck “Automatic numbered lists”

5.) Click OK

Check Voicemail From Outside

To check voicemail from the road:

1. Dial the main telephone line.

2. Dial 9

3. Dial your extension

4. Follow the voicemail instructions as if you were in the office.

Setting up a New Time Zone in Outlook Web Access

For those traveling or in AZ, it is useful to know how-to change the time zone in Outlook Web Access (OWA). The following tip contains a walk-through to that ends. It is important that your Windows time zone (as shown in the previous tip) and your OWA tie match.

Sign into Outlook Web Access and click on Options.

Once in Options scroll down to the section that says DATE AND TIME FORMATS
Change the Time Zone to one that you need, and at the top click on Save and Close.

That should make the change to your calendar.

Adjust The Time Zone in Windows XP

With a branch office and many traveling associates, Tech Support gets a lot of questions related to time zones. Misadjusted time zones can lead to mass duplication of appointments and files in both Outlook and a PDA. Additionally if a meeting request is sent or accepted by a system with incorrect time settings, the associates’ calendar often won’t match. You should not simply add or subtract hours in the Windows Date & Time. You should change the Time Zone to match your current location. Once your time zone is correct, you may adjust the date and/or time to correct for non-time zone related incongruities. Here is the correct way to change your time zone when traveling or changing locations.

1.) Double Click the clock on the right hand side of the taskbar.

2.) Click the “Time Zone” tab.

3.) Select the appropriate Time Zone in the drop-down menu.

4.) Click OK
Notes:
- Windows uses the time setting to identify when files are created or modified.
- If you want your computer’s clock to be adjusted automatically when daylight saving time changes, make sure the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box is selected. This setting is located on the Time Zone tab.
- Most computer clocks are regularly synchronized with a network time server (if you are a member of a domain) or an Internet time server (when you connect to the Internet). This will automatically adjust your time if you have manually changed the date, hours, or minutes to the correct synchronized time.
-When adjusting the time on an iPaq, Palm, or other PDA, you should follow same guidelines: change the time zone, not the time.

Reduce Your Way To Faster Outlook Performance

It's very easy to allow your Outlook inbox to become fat with unneeded messages and attachments that should be saved separately. The bigger your inbox, the slow email is, for yourself and everyone else.

Outlook 2003 includes a tool called “Mailbox Cleanup” to help you manage the size of your inbox .

1. On the Tools menu, click Mailbox Cleanup.

2. Set "Find Items Larger Than" to 100 kilobytes and click "Find".

3. In the Advanced Find window, click the "Size" column header to sort by size.

4. Go through those messages. Delete one you don't need, save important attachments to My Documents or a Client Folder on the network, and delete the message. For large messages with pictures, copy and paste the content of the email into a word document and Save to My Documents or an appropriate folder on the network.

For those without Outlook 2003, including our friends in Phoenix, the following is a simply how-to sort by size for Outlook Web Access.

1. When viewing your inbox, click the "Size" column header to sort by size.

2. . Go through the largest messages. Delete one you don't need, save important attachments to My Documents or a Client Folder on the network, and delete the message. For large messages with pictures, copy and paste the content of the email into a word document and Save to My Documents or an appropriate folder on the network.

3. Repeat this process for everyone subfolder within your Inbox. Also go through your Sent Items, Deleted Items, and Drafts.

New Email Groups

In the coming weeks there will be several address groups that will either be changed, combined or possibly removed. This is in an effort to reduce confusion with e-mails sent.As a start, there are 2 "NEW" Groups that have been add to the Outlook Global Address Book.

_Arizona – Only Associates in Arizona will receive e-mails sent to this Group
_Owings Mills – Only Associated in Owings Mills will receive e-mails sent to this Group

To send to everyone in the company you can still use:_Everyone – Every Levin Group Associate receive e-mails sent to this Group.

Welcome to the second installment of a weekly email from the tech support help desk.Last week we learned how-to make MS Word save Autorecovery files in in the background every 5 minutes. This tip allows you to change where that AutoRecovery temporary file is saved. The helpdesk recommends making a "Word Autorecovery" folder in you’re my Documents to save these files for easy access and server back-ups.

3. In the File types box, click AutoRecover files.

4. Click Modify.

5. If you want to store automatically recovered files in a different folder, locate and open the folder. I keep my automatically recovered files in a folder within My Documents. That way if my computer goes up in the middle of project, even my recovery files are backed-up on the server.

Note: AutoRecover is not a replacement for regularly saving your documents. If you choose not to save the recovery file after Word opens it, the file is deleted and your unsaved changes are lost. If you save the recovery file, it replaces the original document (unless you specify a new file name).Next week we'll discuss back-up and recovery tool in Microsoft Word

Change how often you want Word to save documents automatically

Fellow LG and LFS Associates, This is the first installment of a weekly email from the tech support help desk. Every week you will receive a tip, trick, and simple how-to on some of MS Office's more obscure features. This week's TECH TIP is regarding Microsoft Word 2000. Did you know that Word can save the document you are working in automatically in the background? As the rhetorical question implies, you can! In fact, Word has several ways to save in the background. This tip allows you to change how often an AutoRecover temporary file is saved. We recommend setting the AutoRecover frequency to about 5 minutes.

1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Save tab.

2. Select the Save AutoRecover info every check box.<3. In the minutes box, enter the interval for how often you want Microsoft Word to save documents. The more frequently Word saves documents, the more information is recovered if there is a power failure or similar problem while a document is open in Word.
